My new book The Carnivore Diet for Beginners is available for preorder!
One of the main reason I took on this project was because I wanted an opportunity to add the importance of sourcing meat from local farmers to the carnivore diet narrative.
Animal agriculture and meat have been the scapegoat for many of our personal and environmental health problems over the last 70 years and especially over the last 5. From meat being the cause of heart disease and cancer to animal agriculture taking the blame for green house gas emissions, there are no shortage of claims.
The case made against meat and animal ag is very misunderstood. Even the worst big corporate animal agriculture practices still produce a nutrient dense protein source that is very aligned with our human physiology and contributes only a small drop in the environmental destruction bucket.
Regardless, the part of the conversation that is never considered is local animal agriculture. Smaller, local animal ag operations are typically allowing their animals to live how they should in environments that they should be in and this produces not only a superior product but it’s also beneficial to the environment. Animals living properly off the land improve land infrastructure, soil microbial diversity, and research has shown that animals living under these conditions can produce net NEGATIVE green house gas emissions.
There is no arguing that if we want to have land that produces real food that matches our human biology for years to come and not lab grown chemical fake food, investing in locally sourced regenerative agriculture systems is the only path forward.
Another positive to those smaller local farms is that when you purchase from them you are supporting your local economy on top of getting a healthier product that’s doing good for your environment. Translates to: support your local farmers
