As a writer, one of my go-to tools is The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. It’s a book that provides you with the right mindset to win the war on creativity which is against the enemy resistance.
Resistance is what many creators face when they are trying to do their work. It is an invisible force that does what it can to get in the way of our progress. As creators, we must prepare ourselves with the right mindset to combat resistance and produce good work.
I think that resistance extends much further than just the creative process. I think resistance is alive well in anything that can potentially lead to us progressing or getting better. Such as our health.
How many of you have ever really wanted to do what it takes to get healthy but inevitably find yourself continuing or reverting back to your old ways? We have all been there. At times, it can almost feel like we have self-destructive tendencies. We continue to do the things to our health that we know are not good and we know put us at risk of poor health in the future. Why do we do this? It’s resistance.
Resistance is the voice in the back of your mind that tells you it’s okay to skip a workout, to have a bad meal, to miss a meditation session, or to stay up all night scrolling on your social media feed. When we are working on our health, we inevitably will face plenty of resistance. Thus, according to Steven Pressfield, we should adopt a mindset and prepare ourselves with the tools to combat resistance. That is if your goal is to improve our health.
The next few newsletters will contain a series on the resistance we face during our health journeys and what we can do to make sure that resistance doesn’t prevent us from improving our health or make us spiral back towards our own ways.
If you think that someone you know could benefit from reading this series, please do me a huge favor and share this with them!
Thanks for reading,
